Overview:
The DevOps Application Engineer (Level II) is responsible for
managing, monitoring and maintaining enterprise-wide system
applications, as well as to ensure availability and performance
complies with Boar's Head's expectations. The DevOps Application
Engineer is also responsible for overseeing both the tactical and
strategic operations of the Boar's Head hosted production
environment and managing the relationship with the Infrastructure
hosting partners.
The DevOps Application Engineer (Level II) will review, approve and
manage the changes, projects and tasks impacting all Enterprise
Applications with the hosting provider. This position will ensure
that the provider is maintaining the Boar's Head systems within the
policies, standards and SLAs agreed upon with the provider. DevOps
Application Engineer (Level II) will gather requirements from the
PMs and RMs for projects that have requirements for Enterprise
applications and provide the costs, timelines, and projections.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Provide engineering, installation, configuration, monitoring, and
maintenance on the hosted applications environments in a 24/7
support environment
* Become Subject Matter Expert on all Boar's Head hosted software
products
* Develop and analyze highly complex system standards, thresholds,
and recommendations to maximize system performance
* Performance tuning, identify and fix performance bottlenecks and
tune the applications using traditional techniques and tools.
* On Call afterhours/weekend support required on a rotational basis
at management's discretion.
* Provide technical leadership to appropriate personnel on highly
complex system administration activities
* Work closely with multiple departments as well as provide
detailed status reports on assigned projects and ongoing support
for assigned systems and applications
* Ensure performance of systems meet expected Service Level
Agreements
* Lead and coordinate efforts during production outages
* Work with other internal teams on root cause analysis and
resolution.
* Great understanding of Application Deployments
* Coordinate development changes to Non-Oracle environments with
MSP
* Review Non-Oracle performance SLAs (Application response,
Application uptime)
* Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the manager's
discretion
* Build automation, continues development and integration
support
* Create and manage application requirements
* Review Projects and Tacticals application requirements
* Review and maintain application Policies and Standards
* Provide application (Non-Oracle) support oversight
* License compliance
* Maintain and administer Non-Oracle Applications in cloud
infrastructure (i.e. Azure, AWS, etc.)
* Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the manager's
discretion.
Experience
* Associates degree in Computer Science or related field or
equivalent experience. Bachelor's degree desired.
* Minimum of 3-6 years' experience in IT application
administration.
* Proven experience administering security for large-scale business
applications in a dynamic environment.
* Demonstrated experience with the development and application of
IT security policies and procedures.
* Experience with Enterprise Applications that include but not
limited to Docker, Kubernetes, GoAnywhere, DotCMS, Tyk, ELK, Kafka,
Jira, Confluence, Bamboo, Bitbucket, Flink, Clickhouse and
Loftware
* Experience with CI/CD pipelines and scripting languages that
include but not limited to Bash, Ansible, Perl, Python and
Powershell.
* Experience of virtualization technologies (i.e. VMWare, OVM,
etc.).
* Experience on Cloud Platforms (i.e. Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
* Demonstrated experience on Linux and Windows operating
systems.
* Experience using network shares (i.e. NFS, CIFs etc.)
* Experience with networking protocols that include but not limited
to DNS, SMTP, SSH, SSL, FTP, SCP, etc.
* Experience with Continuous Integration, Delivery and Deployment
(CI/CD) tools, such as Bamboo, Jenkins, Docker, UrbanCode, Ancible,
Mavin, TeamCity, GiTLab, etc.
* Experience with load balancers and DMZ environments
* Experience with log analysis and various analysis tools
* Experience with Oracle database administration.
* Experience with Java, ASP, HTML, XML, SQL, PL/SQL; development
experience preferred
* Experience with monitoring tools like Nagios or Icinga.
* Experience with other third-party development and database
administration tools e.g. SQL Navigator, SQL Tuner
* Design/Engineering experience in all layered Products in a
multi-tiered web environment and understanding the interaction
between each tier
* Experience working in the various phases of the software
development life cycle (SDLC) using methodologies like Agile and
Waterfall.
Other Knowledge, Skill and Abilities
* Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management,
both verbally and in writing
* Strong Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office skills
* Strong communication and analytical skills
* Ability to mentor junior team members
* Ability to coordinate with multiple IT and Business
stakeholders
* Ability to efficiently work on multiple complex projects or
assignments concurrently.
* Ability to think logically and analytically
Education
* At least 5 years of experience in Applications Administration or
equivalent.
* 4-year university degree in Computer Engineering/ Computer
Science/ Information Technology or equivalent
