Department Critical Care Job Summary Welcome to our dynamic Critical Care CVICU Nursing Department! Provides professional and skilled nursing care to patients using the patient centered care model of SMHCS (policy 126.054) in accordance with the ANA and AACNs Standards of Professional Practice. Patient Population: patients with a primary diagnosis of advanced cardiovascular disease requiring complex nursing assessment skills and care including but not limited to:

• Post Open Heart Surgical patient recovery
• Cardiac Arrest
• Left Ventricular Assist Device Care: Impella & IABP
• ECMO (extra corporeal membrane oxygenation)
• Advanced Hemodynamic Monitoring
• Titration of vasoactive medications (inotropes, vasopressors, vasodilators)Opportunities for Novice and Experienced Nurses:
  • Individualized orientation
  • Specialized training in the recovery of fresh open heart surgical patients
  • Nurse Residency for all new graduates with the implementation of ECCO (essentials of critical care orientation)

  • Critical Care Internship with knowledge base lecture series provided in the department Required Qualifications
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) through American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support); required for experienced RN, has to be completed by end of orientation for the novice Critical Care RN
    • Successful completion of Basic Arrhythmia test within 90 days of date of hire
    • BSN requirement within 5 years of date of hire for the ASN candidate
    • Required basic working knowledge of commonly used computer applications including but not limited to Microsoft Preferred Qualifications - Prefer National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification upon hire.- Prefer certification in nursing specialty area.Preferred Education BSN: Bachelor of Science NursingRequired License and Certs BLS: Basic Life Support/CPRFL RN: FL Registered Nurse License Work Days/Shifts/Times
