play. As an Environmental Specialist III with the Beaches and Water
Access Division, you will have the opportunity to supervise
Environmental Specialists and participate in operations associated
with the management of natural resources within beach, island, and
water access parks. You will be the lead for identifying and
applying for funding, planning, design and implementation of
upland, marine, estuarine, and artificial reef habitat management

Project Administration: Coordinate habitat improvement projects,
invasive plant and animal management, artificial reef construction,
water access improvements, unit management plans, and stewardship
activities. Coordinate and administer grant applications and
permits to the Artificial Reef Program, Florida Department of
Environmental Protection, WCIND and other appropriate sources.
Assist county departments, agencies and stakeholders with special
projects including derelict vessel removals, boat ramp maintenance,
water access development and maintenance, boater safety, and
waterway navigational improvements and maintenance.
Contract Management: Develop, coordinate, and administer
contractual services for natural resource management and water
access improvement projects. Assist Capital Projects and Parks
Planning with the development of water access improvement
projects.
Environmental Management and Monitoring: Manage, lead, and
participate with the Division's Environmental Specialists that are
responsible for assisting with conducting ecological and bathymetry
surveys and mapping, sea-grass monitoring, invasive plant and
animal management, integrated pest management compliance, habitat
improvement projects, and environmental education. Assess
environmental projects in terms of on-site and off-site
environmental impacts as requested by the Division Manager.
Area Contingency Plans: Coordinate with County EOC staff on water
access plans and waterway debris management as needed. Coordinate
with other county departments and outside agencies to address
derelict vessels and the safe navigation of waterways with Sarasota
County.
Perform Public Outreach: Develop and/or distribute information for
public education regarding the coastal natural resources and their
management in Sarasota County. Provide technical assistance to
civic groups, advisory boards, police, marine patrol and coast
guard. Respond to citizen's questions either by phone, in writing
or in person. Work with the local media to keep them informed of
significant events as requested or initiated. Work with volunteers
to achieve community and Division goals.
Additional Duties: Maintain field equipment in safe and proper
operating condition including the Division boats and all associated
electronics. Maintain monitoring equipment including GPS, depth
finders and SCUBA equipment. Obtain and maintain the necessary
training to be a crew member on the county's prescribed fire
management team.
Work Hours:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m.

About You:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in
biology, ecology, environmental sciences or a related field and
three (3) years professional experience.
Master's degree may substitute for one year of professional
experience
Progressively responsible professional experience may be
substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college
degree
Valid Florida Driver's License
Preferred Qualifications:
United States Coast Guard boater safety certifications,
State of Florida pesticide applicators license with an endorsement
in Natural Areas,
Wildland fire certifications in S 130,S 190, and L 180
Scuba diving certification
Subject to Passing Substance Screening: This position is subject to
passing a pre-employment substance screening. An applicant who
fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified
from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.

Pay Range: $50,523.20 - $67,932.80
